On the occasion of the 63rd Anniversary of Cambodia’s Independence Day on 9th November 1953-2016, H.E. Ambassador Chea Kimtha posted a congratulatory message on special supplements of The Japan Times which was published on 7th November 2016.
In this special commemoration, some Japanese dignitaries including H.E. Mr. Takeo Hiranuma, Member of House of Representatives of Japan and Chairman of Japan-Cambodia Parliamentary Friendship League, and H.E. Mr. Yasushi Akashi, former special representative of the UN Secretary-General for Cambodia, contributed their messages to the Japan Times, which reflected the current development of Cambodia and much progress in the bilateral relationship between Cambodia and Japan.
In addition, four honorary consuls of Cambodia to Japan, Cambodia-Japan Friendship Associations to some prefectures in Japan and other private Japanese companies extended their congratulations and best wishes, posted on The Japan Times, to Cambodian people on this auspicious occasion.

At the invitation of Mr. Kazunari Takezaki, Mayor of Ashikita town and Chair of the Ashikita International Association, H.E. Ambassador Chea Kimtha attended the “15th Ashikita International Festival” on 23rd October 2016 at Ashikita town, Kumamoto Prefecture.
The purpose of the invitation in the Festival was to mark the “20th Anniversary of the Establishment of the Ashikita International Association” and especially congratulate the 20-year relationship between Cambodia and Ashikita.
The Ashikita International Association was established in December 1996 and has started the school-building campaign in Cambodia since its establishment. The Association has so far built many schools in Cambodia and also made student-student exchange programs between Ashikita and Cambodia for mutual understanding in the field of education and culture.
On 15th October 2016, the Royal Embassy of Cambodia in Japan hosted the ACT (ASEAN Committee in Tokyo) Family Day at Kasai Rinkai Park, Tokyo. Approximately 200 people attended the event, including ASEAN Ambassadors, diplomats, local staff and their family members, as well as Tokyo Metropolitan Assembly (TMA) Members.
The ACT Family Day was officiated by H.E. Ambassador Chea Kimtha, rotating Chair of ACT Family Day 2016, and President of TMA was subsequently invited to deliver remarks. In welcoming remarks, H.E. Ambassador Chea Kimtha underlined that the ACT Family Day symbolized the close and cordial relations among ASEAN diplomats and families in Japan, the solidarity of which would further strengthen ASEAN unity and prosperity in advancing the common interests of ASEAN with the Government of Japan, as well as promote a true sense of the newly-established ASEAN Community. H.E. Ambassador also called on ASEAN Diplomatic missions in Japan to continue assisting with each other in order to strengthen solidarity and mutual understanding, and to promote the ASEAN spirit in all fields.
After the opening ceremony, ASEAN Ambassadors and their spouses, and TMA members participated in the Lawn Bowling competition, while other adults and children from each Embassy competed in three different games: Penalty Shoot-out, Three-legged race and Egg and Spoon Race.
Guests were then invited to enjoy food served from each ASEAN Embassy. The ACT Family Day 2016 came to an end with the prize giving ceremony.
At the invitation of Mr. Shinya Katanozaka, President and CEO of ANA Holdings INC, H.E. Ambassador Chea Kimtha attended the inaugural direct flight ceremony at Narita International Airport, Japan, on 1st September 2016 and was on board of the first ANA direct flight to attend the flight ceremony on the same day at Phnom Penh International Airport, Cambodia.
On 2nd September 2016, H.E. Ambassador also participated in the reception for the official launch of the historical direct flight at Japanese Ambassador’s Residence in Phnom Penh.
